"Shalom, Orthodox Christians!": Uman Prepares to Welcome Hasidim for Rosh Hashanah

The city of Uman in the Cherkasy region is actively preparing to celebrate the Jewish New Year—Rosh Hashanah—which this year will take place from September 11 to 13. Regional authorities have already coordinated the efforts of all emergency services to ensure the safety of local residents and visiting pilgrims. This was reported by “Glavkom.”
Ihor Taburets, head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, emphasized that an operational headquarters will be set up in the city to oversee the work of law enforcement agencies, medical facilities, and transportation infrastructure. Particular attention is being paid to the preparation of checkpoints and health and safety standards. Although authorities are urging believers to consider the risks associated with the ongoing war in Ukraine, more than 40,000 Hasidim are expected to arrive.
According to the publication, coordination among all relevant agencies is being carried out with heightened intensity. The authorities emphasize that security remains the top priority under martial law. Meanwhile, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously advised pilgrims to refrain from traveling to Ukraine due to the difficult security situation.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that the traditional annual religious procession, which was scheduled to begin on August 19 from the Holy Trinity Brailov Women’s Monastery to the Dormition Pochaiv Lavra, will not take place this year. The decision to cancel the event was made due to the state of martial law and a corresponding order from the Vinnytsia Regional Administration.
