More than 35 thousand Hasidim arrived in Uman: the city strengthens security for Rosh Hashanah

Some 35,000 Hasidic pilgrims have arrived in Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah or the «Jewish New Year 5786». Enhanced security measures have been introduced in the city, including round-the-clock rescue teams and joint patrols by Ukrainian and Israeli forces. The total number of pilgrims is expected to reach 38,000 by the beginning of the holiday. This is reported by Risu.ua.

According to the United Jewish Community of Ukraine (UJCU), which monitors the situation in the area of the memorial complex named after Rabbi Nachman, where the pilgrims come together, the expected number of prochans has already arrived. Earlier, Ukraine and Israel developed a special security plan aimed at ensuring order and protection of Hasidic pilgrims during their stay in Uman.

One of the key components of this plan was the strengthening of control at the entrances to the city. Iryna Rybnitskaya, the Foundation’s executive director, said that the number of baggage screening devices has been doubled from two to four. These devices are installed at key entrances to Uman, and their work is provided by specialists with relevant experience from the airports of Odessa, Vinnitsa and Dnipro. This innovation allows to significantly speed up the process of luggage inspection and guarantee maximum safety for both pilgrims and residents of the city.

We will remind, earlier we reported that the annual celebration of Rosh Hashanah, which supporters of Hasidism make in Uman, will arrive about 45 thousand pilgrims from Israel. The celebration will take place from September 22 to 24, 2025.
