According to the press service of Cherkassy diocese, the first signs of unusual indisposition in the vladyka appeared more than a month ago. Symptoms included frequent fever, sharp spikes in blood pressure and a consistently poor health, which was not similar to the manifestations of his chronic diseases. Because of this, the Metropolitan had to cancel or postpone a number of scheduled services and events.

This week, the bishop’s health has deteriorated dramatically. According to the report, extended tests showed that some vital signs exceeded the norm by 10-15 times, although a month ago they were within the normal range. This was the reason for immediate hospitalization at the insistence of doctors.

The official statement of the diocese emphasizes that the medics plan to conduct «a broad study on the content of poisonous substances in the bishop’s body.» This indicates that the version of deliberate poisoning is considered as one of the main reasons for the sudden deterioration of health.
