The Primates of the Local Orthodox Churches met with the King of Jordan

The Primates of the Orthodox Churches of Jerusalem, Antioch and Serbia held a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan, during which they discussed restoring stability in the Middle East and preserving the Christian presence in the region. The meeting took place on December 8, 2025, at Husseiniyya Palace.

During the talks, which were also attended by Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II, King Abdullah II emphasized the need to stop violations against Islamic and Christian shrines in the Holy City. These actions, according to the parties, are aimed at changing the existing historical and legal status quo.

The King of Jordan, who was present with Prince Ghazi bin Mohammed, the king’s senior advisor for religious and cultural affairs, assured that Jordan will continue to play its historical and religious role in protecting the holy sites, relying on Hashemite patronage. The meetings also discussed the general situation in the region. King Abdullah II emphasized the need to respect the agreement to end the war in Gaza, provide humanitarian aid and prevent dangerous escalation in the West Bank.

Recall, earlier Patriarchs and heads of Christian Churches of Jerusalem visited the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in the village of Taybeh in the West Bank to express solidarity with the local community after the fire set by Jews in the temple and in the local Christian cemetery.
