US congresswoman accuses Ukrainian government of systematic persecution of Christians

US Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has issued a harsh statement accusing Ukraine of systematic persecution of Christian communities and saying that US financial aid actually facilitates these actions. She called for an immediate end to the Ukrainian government’s uncontrolled funding.

On her social media page X, Anna Paulina Luna emphasized that “reports confirm searches of churches, detentions of clergy and state pressure on certain Christian denominations in Ukraine.” She expressed bewilderment that the U.S. Congress continues to allocate significant funds to a country where, according to her, Christian rights are violated.

“If the government is putting Christians in jail, why are we still sending them hundreds of millions without any oversight?”, Luna wondered. She also noted that “activists cry ‘human rights’ as long as it’s not about Christians,” pointing out the selective reporting of such incidents.

Congresswoman Moon concluded her statement by categorically emphasizing that “the United States is FINANCING the systematic persecution of Christians in Ukraine,” and again called for an end to the Ukrainian government’s unaccountable funding.

Recall, earlier the leader of the youth wing of the Republican Party of the United States, Katherine Whiteford appealed to Orthodox Americans to participate in a meeting with Congressmen, scheduled for December 16, 2025. The reason for this appeal was the defamatory statements of a number of American lawmakers who began to associate Orthodox clergy with “Russian intelligence services” and “foreign influence” in connection with support for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
