Teacher in London fired for characterizing Britain as a Christian country

In London, an elementary school teacher was suspended and then fired after a complaint from a Muslim pupil. The incident occurred when the teacher made a remark to a group of pupils who were washing their feet in the sinks. During the remark, the teacher noted that Britain «is a Christian country» and British values include the historical role of Anglicanism and the King as head of the Church of England.

According to BLIK.ua, the student’s parents who filed the complaint led to serious consequences for the teacher. The teacher was referred to the child protection board, temporarily banned from working, and the police were brought in to check for possible «harm».

Although the police subsequently closed the case after finding no grounds for the charges, the school decided to dismiss the teacher. The ban on working with children was lifted only after a successful appeal against the decision. Currently, the dismissed teacher works part-time in another school located outside London.

Recall, according to a new study published by The Christian Post, the UK is experiencing a significant transformation of the religious landscape. More and more Britons leaving Christianity are turning to atheism, agnosticism, paganism, or other forms of spiritualism rather than converting to other major world religions. This phenomenon points not to straightforward secularization, but to a «recomposition of beliefs» in which people favor personalized, practice-oriented, and well-being-oriented forms of faith, moving away from inherited institutional structures.
