Israeli authorities are taking steps to combat the persecution of Christians

The Religious Freedom Data Center (RFDC) has announced a significant milestone in its efforts to monitor incidents of religious hatred. According to Christian Today, high-ranking Israeli officials have begun to actively intervene in the situation involving the systematic persecution of Christians in Jerusalem.
Over the past three years, the RFDC has regularly published reports documenting an increase in incidents of aggression. According to the latest data, the most common form of harassment remains spitting at Christians or church buildings, with the majority of such incidents occurring on one of the streets in the Old City. In addition, victims face vandalism, verbal abuse, and physical violence.
The situation has reached a critical point, forcing many members of the clergy to conceal their affiliation with the church by wearing civilian clothing in public places. Researchers note that such behavior is sometimes encouraged within families, and some perpetrators justify their actions on religious grounds.
In late October, a delegation led by Israel’s Deputy State Attorney visited the Old City for face-to-face meetings with victims, including the family of a nine-year-old child who was attacked with pepper spray. RFDC representatives highly commended this initiative, noting that the authorities’ attention to the issue offers hope for change. A legislative initiative aimed at introducing an official ban on spitting in public places is currently under discussion.
