Patriarchs Kirill and Theophilos Discussed Inter-Orthodox Relations

On November 5, a meeting took place in Moscow between Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem. During the talks, the parties discussed current difficulties in inter-Orthodox relations, as well as issues concerning the situation of Christians in the Middle East. According to the Orthodox Times, the meeting took place against the backdrop of intensified contacts between representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and the ancient patriarchates.
During an official conversation at the patriarchal residence, the hierarchs exchanged views on ways to overcome the crises facing the Orthodox world. Patriarch Kirill briefed his guest on church life in Russia, while Patriarch Theophilos III focused particularly on the challenges facing the Christian presence in the Middle East. In addition, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church expressed his condolences regarding the recent attack in Jordan that took place in October 2026.
It should be recalled that earlier, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, Archbishop George of Cyprus, had supported dialogue with the Russian Orthodox Church.
