An Orthodox baptism of four people took place in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Mauritius

Last weekend, a significant church event took place in Mauritius: four people were baptized in the waters of the Indian Ocean. The sacrament was performed by Father Dmitry Matienko, rector of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord of the Russian Orthodox Church in Port Louis. This was reported by OrthoChristian.

The ceremony took place on Sunday, October 25, the day commemorating the Fathers of the Seventh Ecumenical Council. The newly baptized, who received the Orthodox names Sophronius, John, David, and Lyubov, underwent preliminary spiritual preparation under the guidance of Father Dmitry.

It is worth noting that this is not the first such event on the island this year. Earlier, in January, on the feast of the Epiphany, six more people converted to Orthodoxy. The growth of the parish was made possible thanks to the active efforts of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church. On the eve of these events, a solemn consecration of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord took place, performed by the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Constantine of Zaraysk.

As a reminder, we previously reported that in July 2026, mass baptisms took place in Central African countries, conducted by representatives of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church.
