Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem condemned the bloody terrorist attack against Christians in Jordan

Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem issued an official statement following the tragic attack on the Greek Orthodox community in Jordan, which took place near the Church of St. George in the El-Karak district. According to Orthodoxia.info, at least seven people were killed and ten others were injured as a result of the armed attack during a funeral procession.

In his message, the head of the Church of Jerusalem firmly stated that such acts of violence will not force Christians to leave their homeland. On the contrary, according to the Patriarch, attempts to expel them will only strengthen the believers’ bond with their historical homeland. “We are the children of this land; we are part of its history, present, and future,” he emphasized, adding that no threats will force Christians to renounce their faith.

The Patriarchate of Jerusalem expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Jordan, and the country’s Hashemite leadership. The statement emphasizes that this tragedy has sparked nationwide mourning, uniting Christians and Muslims. Patriarch Theophilos specifically noted that the crime committed has nothing to do with the moderate Islam practiced in Jordan and expressed confidence in Jordanian society’s ability to resist extremist ideologies.

Church leaders expressed their full confidence in Jordan’s security forces and expressed hope that the perpetrators of the attack would be swiftly brought to justice. The faithful were urged to remain steadfast in their faith and to pray during this difficult time for the country.
