A Roman Catholic church in Volyn will be restored with grant funds from Poland

The city of Volodymyr-Volynskyi is launching a large-scale and long-term project to restore one of the oldest architectural monuments — the Church of Joachim and Anna, located near the central square. This initiative, aimed at preserving cultural heritage, is realized thanks to international cooperation, and the first stage of works on the development of project documentation has already been completed.

As the BUG edition reports with reference to the city’s Facebook page, the project was made possible thanks to fruitful cooperation between the Vladimir City Council, the Vladimir Historical and Cultural Reserve «Vladimir Ancient» and the National Institute of Polish Cultural Heritage Abroad «Polonika». The cooperation is carried out within the framework of the grant program «Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad».

The cooperation was officially launched on October 4, 2024, when the Grant Agreement was signed. The next important step was the signing on November 8, 2024 of a tripartite agreement between the Roman Catholic Parish in Wola Gulivska, the reserve «Vladimir the Ancient» and the contractor for the development of project documentation for the restoration of the monument. The cost of this stage amounted to 125,150 PLN.

In the near future it is planned to start a large-scale restoration of the roof of the historic church. The Polonika Institute has already approved funding for the next stage, which will take place in 2025-2026. The total amount allocated for the roof repair is PLN 725,370. The first priority will be the restoration of the towers in the most critical condition, as well as the northern part of the main roof.

The work will begin after all necessary approvals and permits have been obtained. The organizers of the project hope that further cooperation with «Polonika» and partners will allow to completely renovate the historic building of the church.

We would like to remind you that in the village of Yagilnitsa, Chortkovsky district, Ternopil region, the ancient church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be officially handed over to the Roman Catholic community for free use.
