The court in Cherkasy postponed the hearing in the case of Metropolitan Theodosius due to illness

On December 18, 2025, the Sosnovskyy district court of Cherkasy postponed the court hearing in the case of Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kanevskyy. The reason for the postponement was the unsatisfactory state of health of the bishop, who has been on hospital treatment since the end of November. The next hearing is scheduled for December 26.

As «Suspilne Cherkasy» reports, at the meeting on December 18, Vladimir Yudin, the Metropolitan’s defense counsel, filed a motion to postpone the hearing, explaining it by the continued stay of the Bishop in a medical institution. In this regard, Metropolitan Theodosius and his lawyers could not be present in court. It is noted that the bishop was urgently hospitalized on November 28, 2025 in critical condition and since then continues to be treated in the hospital.

Earlier reports indicated that doctors had managed to significantly reduce the rates of inflammatory damage to internal organs. However, despite the improvements, the rates are still several times higher than the acceptable norm. Metropolitan Theodosius is undergoing a course of intensive therapy and is under round-the-clock observation of medical specialists.

During the hearing, prosecutor Vadim Kolomiets attempted to extend the measure of restraint in the form of personal commitment, which expires on December 30. However, the court refused to consider this motion, pointing to the impossibility of resolving such issues in the absence of the accused. The prosecutor also insisted on imposing a monetary penalty, motivated by the lack of submitted medical documents. The judge, in turn, noted the prematurity of such measures at this stage.

As a result, the consideration of the case was postponed, and the next hearing of the Sosnovsky District Court of Cherkasy on the case of Metropolitan Theodosius is scheduled for December 26.

Recall, earlier we reported that Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kanevsky was urgently hospitalized due to a sharp deterioration in health. Doctors are conducting a comprehensive examination, during which the version about possible poisoning of the hierarch will be investigated. At present, the hierarch’s condition has been stabilized and he is undergoing a course of intensive therapy.
