Sumy Eparchy of the UOC-KP opens Petro Mohyla Theological Seminary

The Sumy Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate has made a significant step in the development of spiritual education by establishing and successfully registering the Sumy Orthodox Theological Seminary named after Petro Mohyla with the justice authorities. This new educational institution is designed to train highly qualified spiritual pastors and ministers for the needs of the Church and Ukrainian society.

According to the head of the Sumy Diocese of the UOC-KP, Nikodym Kobzar, the organization demonstrates active development and constant participation in the religious and spiritual life of Ukraine. Even in difficult times, the UOC-KP is confidently moving along the path of establishment, growth and service to the Ukrainian people, which is confirmed by the creation of a new seminary.

«The Petro Mohyla Theological Seminary is not just a new educational project; it is a vivid testimony of a living, active, and responsible Church that cares deeply about its future. The main goal of the seminary is to train specialists who are able to meet the needs of both the Church and the entire Ukrainian society,» the statement reads.

Among the key tasks of the educational institution is the formation of a new generation of clergy of the UOC-KP, chaplains, employees of diocesan administrations and missions, regents of church choirs, as well as teachers of Christian ethics and morality. Thus, the seminary seeks to provide comprehensive support and development of the country’s spiritual potential.

As reported, on November 5, 2025, a meeting was held in Kyiv between the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko and the leader of the UOC-KP Filaret Denisenko. During the conversation, the hierarchs discussed Filaret’s many years of ministry and the importance of unity, ending the conversation with a joint prayer for the victory of Ukraine.
