The son of a cleric of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, a warrior Georgiy Koptil, died at the front in July 2023. The tragic event occurred in the Zaporizhzhya direction, where Georgiy was fulfilling his military duty. For a long time he was reported missing.
According to the press service of the Chernihiv diocese of the UOC, Georgy Koptil is the son of Archpriest John Koptil. His death was confirmed several months after he was reported missing.
The priesthood, clergy and faithful of the Chernihiv diocese expressed deep and sincere condolences to Archpriest Ioann Koptil and his family in connection with the irreparable loss. The message of the diocese says: “May the Merciful Lord rest the soul of the warrior George in the heavenly mansions, and give his family strength in this time of sorrow”.
Recall, earlier we reported that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Alexander Syrsky, honored Archpriest Yuri Zarafutdinov, cleric of the Volyn diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, with the Golden Cross award. Father Yuriy is a veteran of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Daniel and took an active part in the defense of Ukraine from Russian troops.
