MP Guz threatens monastic communities of the UOC in Zymne and Nyzykynychi with eviction from their monasteries

MP Ihor Huz threatened to take away two important monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church located in Zymne and Nyzhnychi, Volyn region, in favor of the OCU. The MP called on the monks in these monasteries to move to the OCU or prepare for eviction. The words of the deputy are reported by Volynnews.com.

The politician voiced his position during a religious event at the Holy Dormition Cathedral of the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the UOC, which was taken away from the canonical Church several months ago. “Moscow will not be here anymore,” Guz emphasized, speaking about the future of Ukrainian shrines.

During his speech, Ihor Huz also addressed the abbess of the UOC nunnery in the village of Zymne with a demand: “Stop waiting! Show your consciousness and take a step towards the Ukrainian church.”

As reported, on January 31, 2026, the head of the OCU, Epiphany Dumenko, held a religious event in the Holy Dormition Cathedral of the city of Vladimir, which was taken from the Vladimir-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The event was attended by several hundred people, including military personnel, local officials, and MPs who organized the expropriation of the cathedral from the canonical Church.
