A cleric of the UOC served with the Primate of the Georgian Orthodox Church in Tbilisi

Archpriest Vasyl Nachev, cleric of the Rivne diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, took part in solemn services in Georgia on the eve of Pentecost, co-serving with Georgian Patriarch Shio. During the visit, the preservation of canonical communion between the UOC and the Georgian Orthodox Church was emphasized. About this the priest reported on his personal page in the social network Facebook.

During the pilgrimage the clergyman visited the Trinity Cathedral of Tsminda Sameba in Tbilisi. To participate in the divine service Fr. Vasiliy presented a certificate of a cleric of the UOC and a written confirmation of the absence of canonical interdicts, emphasizing his belonging to the Church under the leadership of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry. After that he was invited to the altar to co-serve the Liturgy together with representatives of the Georgian Church.

As part of the celebrations, the priest also visited the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zion. In both churches the cleric was given clear explanations about the current inter-church situation: the participation of representatives of the PCU in the services of the Georgian Church is prohibited. This fact once again confirmed the consistent position of the Georgian Patriarchate, which refrains from recognizing the PCU and maintains official relations exclusively with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

It should be recalled that earlier Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Shio III, shortly before his election to the Patriarchal Throne, officially expressed his support for the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) Metropolitan Onufry, reaffirming the commitment of the Georgian Church to canonical unity with the UOC. This statement was a significant signal that the foreign policy course of the Georgian Patriarchate has been maintained after the change of leadership.
