A bill to ban prayer rooms in apartment buildings has been submitted to the State Duma

A bill has been submitted to the State Duma proposing to prohibit the placement of prayer rooms in residential and non-residential premises of apartment buildings. The initiative was put forward by the New People party and received inter-factional support. The document has already been finalized taking into account the position of the Russian government. This is reported by TASS.

The project proposes to amend the law on freedom of conscience and religious associations. According to the initiative, conducting services, religious rites, ceremonies and prayer meetings in non-residential premises of apartment buildings and in built-in-attached to them premises will be prohibited. Religious ceremonies in residential premises are allowed only to meet the individual spiritual needs of persons legally residing in them. If adopted, the law will come into force after the official publication.

We shall remind you that earlier we reported that in Lviv journalists of the local TV channel NTA released a report in which they revealed the addresses of private apartments used for worship services by believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The film crew had been following the clergy and parishioners for a year, accusing them of anti-Ukrainian activities and calling them «FSB agents» and «potential assassins».
