Khmelnytsky Regional State Administration: "More than 300 UOC churches in Khmelnytsky region moved to OCU"

The Khmelnytsky Regional Administration reported that since the beginning of 2022, 308 churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church have been re-registered in favor of the OCU. In addition, 32 religious communities of the UOC gained independence. According to Suspilne Khmelnytskyi, citing the press service of the Khmelnytskyi Regional State Administration, these data reflect the dynamics of religious life in the region.

As of 2025, 2007 religious organizations of various faiths and denominations were registered in the Khmelnytsky region. The OCU has the largest representation, with 720 communities, including one newly formed community in Slavuta in 2025. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is represented by 609 religious organizations in the region.

In addition to the Orthodox denominations, there are 154 organizations of the Roman Catholic Church, 83 of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, and one community of the Armenian Catholic Church. There are also communities of the Armenian Apostolic, Lutheran, and Reformed Churches. Among the Protestant denominations, the most numerous are the communities of the All-Ukrainian Union of Churches of Evangelical Christians-Baptists (166 organizations) and the Ukrainian Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith (71 communities).

Earlier, the Khmelnytsky Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) made an official comment on the seizure of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in the village of Kuzmin, which took place on February 9, 2026. According to the diocese, the seizure was based on falsified documents on the change of jurisdiction to the OCU, while the real religious community remains faithful to the UOC. The situation has already attracted international attention, particularly in the US Congress.
