Vladimir Zelensky celebrated the beginning of Ramadan with Muslims in Kiev

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the celebration of the start of the holy month of Ramadan on March 2, 2026, visiting one of Kiev’s mosques. The head of state shared iftar with representatives of the Muslim community, emphasizing the importance of interfaith dialogue and expressing his position on the Iranian regime.

According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky took part in iftar — evening meal during Ramadan. Together with him, the meal was shared by the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, the head of the Office of the President Kirill Budanov, the Commissioner for Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev, as well as imams and Muslim believers. Before starting iftar, the President listened to the imam’s prayer.

During the meeting, Vladimir Zelensky expressed his hope that «the regime in Iran will not win because it is anti-human.» The event was also attended by the head of the State Service of Ukraine on ethno-politics and freedom of conscience (SES) Viktor Yelensky.

Earlier the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (SSEC) officially congratulated Ukrainian Muslims on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, emphasizing their unwavering faith and steadfastness in the face of military trials. The agency expressed its deep hope for the early advent of peace, when prayers can be freely heard in every mosque in the country.

At the same time, the HES decided not to congratulate Orthodox Christians, who represent the majority of Ukraine’s population, on the beginning of Lent, which this year began on February 22.
