"There will be no school": in Ivano-Frankivsk, in place of the demolished temple of the UOC, will appear "a small square"

In Ivano-Frankivsk, the Square of Remembrance will be built on the site of the demolished Spaso-Preobrazhensky Church of the Ivano-Frankivsk Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at 6 Chornovola Street. This decision of the city authorities was announced by the mayor Ruslan Marcinkiv, announcing a soon architectural competition to develop the concept of a new public space.

According to the edition Blitz-lnfo, the city authorities have decided on the future fate of the territory where the cult building used to be located. «On the street Chornovola, where there was a church of the Moscow patriarchate, decided to make a public garden. Square of Memory. We will soon present the concept to the community so that no one speculates on this topic. Yes, it will not be big, but it will be a wonderful place», — the edition quotes the words of the mayor Ruslan Marcinkov.

The mayor also emphasized that soon an architectural competition for the best design of the park will be announced. This will allow to create a new place for recreation and memories in the central part of the city.

It should be noted that the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Ivano-Frankivsk was taken away from the local community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and demolished to the ground back in 2022. After that, the city authorities, speculating on this topic, announced various plans to develop the site where the religious building was located. In particular, in 2024, the mayor of the city announced that on the site of the demolished church of the UOC a building of a secondary school would be erected.
