Archbishop John of Albania: Spiritual life in the modern world is lost

Archbishop John of Tirana, Durres and All Albania, during his historic trip to Boston, emphasized the importance of the constant spiritual life of the faithful, not only during church services. According to ORTHODOXIANEWSAGENCY.GR, on March 8, 2026, he presided over the Divine Liturgy at St. George’s Cathedral in Boston, which is the spiritual center of the Albanian community in the United States.

In his homily, Archbishop John noted that the spiritual life in the modern world has been lost. «People do not cultivate a daily spiritual life. It is not enough to just go to church on Sundays, we need daily spiritual practice,» he said. According to him, spiritual life is a simple but constant attempt to live in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ. «Only in this way can we know our true inner world and, through humility, find the grace of God through which all things are attained,» the Archbishop added.

After the Liturgy, a reception was organized at the spiritual center of the Cathedral in honor of Archbishop John of Albania. He expressed hope that the Cathedral of St. George will become a spiritual center not only for Albanians, but also for representatives of all nationalities.

Recall, the Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church Archbishop John made important statements regarding the current Ukrainian church crisis, which has worsened after the establishment of the PCU by the Patriarchate of Constantinople. In his interview, he emphasized his categorical refusal to choose sides in the conflict, calling for solutions to be found through love and dialogue, while remaining committed to Christ and truth.
