Metropolitan Arseny, Vicar of Sviatogorsk Lavra, has been diagnosed with coronary heart disease

Metropolitan Arseniy (Yakovenko), the vicar of Sviatogorsk Lavra, has been diagnosed with ischemic heart disease; the bishop is undergoing treatment in a clinic in Kyiv. His lawyer, Yuriy Zakharchenko, reported this at the Chechelovsky District Court of Dnipro on March 13, 2026 and petitioned for postponement of the hearing in the criminal case; the next hearing is scheduled for March 26.

According to Suspilne.media, the bishop has been diagnosed with ischemic heart disease and is undergoing treatment for it. The defense filed a petition to the judge to postpone the hearing in connection with the officially confirmed hospitalization of the defendant.

Metropolitan Arseny of Svyatogorsk was arrested in April 2024 and placed in a pre-trial detention center. In the fall of 2025, doctors came to the conclusion about the need for heart surgery and a comprehensive examination by specialists of different profiles. The possibility of hospitalization appeared after February 25, 2026, when the measure of restraint was changed to 24-hour house arrest.

This decision was made during the court session, which took place on February 25, 2026 in the Chechelovsky district court of the city of Dnipro.
