His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius tonsured four monks of the Lavra Lavra

On Tuesday of Holy Cross Week, an important ecclesiastical event took place in the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra: four residents of the monastery took monastic tonsure. The rite was performed by the Holy Archimandrite of the monastery – Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius of Kyiv and All Ukraine. This is reported by the official website of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

The service was held in the Lavra church in the name of St. Agapit of Pechersk. During the rank of tonsure in the mantle, the monastery brothers received new names in honor of the Monk Fathers of Kievo-Pechersk. In particular, the monk Apollos was named Achila, Abvakum was named Sisoi, the monk Enoch became Abramius, and the novice Tikhon took the name Longin.

Upon completion of the sacrament, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius addressed the newly tonsured monks with a farewell address, emphasizing the importance of spiritual exploits. After that, the new members of the monastic community were warmly welcomed by the clergy and brethren of the Lavra.

We would like to remind you that on March 12, 2026, Thursday of the third week of Lent, two monastic monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church held monastic tonsures. In the Molchensky Nunnery of Putivl and in the Pokrovsky Nunnery of Krivoy Rog, new nuns were tonsured with names in honor of the Monks.
