The Primate of the UOC expressed condolences on the death of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry, Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, has sent an official letter of condolence to Metropolitan Shio of Senaki and Chkhorotskuia, the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne of the Georgian Orthodox Church, on the death of His Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.
According to the Information and Education Department of the UOC, in his address dated March 17, 2026, His Beatitude expressed his deep sorrow and sincere sympathy to all the clergy and flock of the Georgian Orthodox Church. Metropolitan Onuphrius emphasized the significance of the personality of the deceased Supreme Patriarch, noting that His Holiness worked hard for the glory of God and for the good of the Church of Christ.
The text of the message emphasizes the connection between the peoples: the Primate of the UOC pointed out that the bright memory of the newly deceased Patriarch will forever remain not only in his heart, but also in the «grateful memory of the entire Ukrainian people». In conclusion, Metropolitan Onuphrius expressed his prayerful hope that the Lord will receive the soul of His faithful servant in the cloisters of the righteous.
