St. Volodymyr's Cathedral in Kyiv to be temporarily closed to prepare for funeral of UOC-KP head

On Saturday, March 21, 2026, St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral of the UOC-KP in Kyiv will be completely closed to the public. This decision was made in connection with the preparations for the burial of the newly deposed head of the UOC-KP Filaret. This was reported by the official resource cerkva.info.

The administration of the cathedral apologized for any inconvenience and clarified the schedule for the coming days. The cathedral will reopen its doors on Sunday morning, March 22, when the main mourning events related to the funeral of the head of the UOC-KP will begin.

Earlier, we reported that the OCU took over the organization of Filaret’s funeral, contrary to his will, as set forth in his spiritual will. In particular, Filaret bequeathed that the funeral service and burial be performed exclusively by the hierarchs of the UOC-KP in St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral in Kyiv, without the participation of representatives of the OCU.
