Volodymyr Zelenskyy honored the memory of the late Filaret Denysenko at St. Michael's Cathedral

on March 21, 2026, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral to say goodbye to Filaret Denisenko. The head of state expressed gratitude to the deceased for his many years of efforts to create a local church in the country. This was reported by the press service of the President of Ukraine.

During the farewell ceremony, Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the historical significance of Denisenko’s activities, noting that without his courage «it is impossible to imagine the history of Ukrainian independence, our spiritual independence and the development of a truly strong state.» The President also added that Filaret had devoted his life to strengthening the foundations of Ukrainian spirituality.

In conclusion, the president wished the deceased peace of heaven and assured that his work would be appreciated by his descendants.

Earlier, we reported that the OCU took over the organization of Filaret’s funeral, contrary to his will, as set forth in his spiritual will. In particular, Filaret bequeathed that the funeral and burial rites be performed exclusively by the hierarchs of the UOC-KP in St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral in Kyiv, without the participation of representatives of the OCU.
