Head of the UGCC Sviatoslav Shevchuk holds a memorial service for Filaret Denysenko in St. Michael's Cathedral

on March 21, 2026, a funeral service for the newly deceased Filaret Denisenko was held at St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral, led by the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk. The event brought together representatives of various church structures in the walls of the main church of the OCU.

According to the press service of the UGCC, the head of the UGCC said a prayer at Denisenko’s grave together with his assistant Andriy Khimyak. After the memorial service, Sviatoslav Shevchuk expressed his support to the clergy and supporters of Epiphany Dumenko’s organization. Earlier, the head of the Uniates sent an official letter of condolences to Dumenko, in which he characterized the deceased’s long life as «almost a century of service and trials.»

Earlier, we reported that the OCU took over the organization of Filaret’s funeral, contrary to his will, as set forth in his spiritual will. In particular, Filaret bequeathed that the funeral service and burial be performed exclusively by the hierarchs of the UOC-KP in St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral in Kyiv, without the participation of representatives of the OCU.
