The number of UGCC parishioners increased one and a half times during the war - Shevchuk

During the period of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the UGCC has demonstrated significant growth, increasing the number of its followers by one and a half times. This was stated by the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, who emphasized the stable development of the religious institution even in the conditions of the ongoing military conflict.

As Ukrinform reports, Shevchuk noted that the growth data is confirmed by the results of a survey by the Razumkov Center. According to him, at the moment the UGCC is the largest Eastern Catholic Church in the world, which continues to thrive despite four years of hardship.

In addition, the head of the UGCC drew attention to the fact that today the organization «ranks second in terms of institutional presence in Ukraine». These indicators, in his opinion, testify to the dynamic development of the structure and strengthening of its position in society in the conditions of a full-scale war.

We shall remind you that according to the Razumkov Center, the religious landscape in Ukrainian society has changed significantly over the years of the full-scale war. There has been a decrease in the percentage of Orthodox believers, while the number of those who identify themselves as «just Christians» or do not belong to any religion is growing.
