Jerusalem Patriarchate canceled Easter celebrations due to military conflict

The Jerusalem Orthodox Church has decided to limit all festive events from Palm Sunday to Easter to worship services only. According to Orthodoxia.info, the move is a sign of respect for human suffering caused by the ongoing hostilities in the Holy Land and the critical situation in the Gaza Strip.
The Patriarchate’s official statement emphasized that in the current unfavorable situation, the Church is obliged to focus on its spiritual mission and the protection of the Christian presence in the region. Canceling the lavish celebrations is seen as a manifestation of solidarity with the affected population. At the same time, the hierarchs note that the performance of regular services in designated places remains an unquestionable priority for the preservation of the historical rights of the community.
The message pays special attention to violations of human dignity and the right to free worship. The Patriarchate pointed to the attacks on civilians in the West Bank and the existing restrictions on the access of believers to holy sites. The Church representatives emphasized that preserving the historical and legal status of the Holy Land is a key task to ensure stability in the crisis.
Concluding the address, the Jerusalem Church expressed its full support for the victims of the war and called for prayer for the establishment of a just peace. The limitation of festive splendor is meant to remind that adversity should not extinguish hope, but obliges everyone to cherish human life.
