OCU clarifies "canonical status" of UOC-KP hierarch Andriy Marutsak

Representatives of the OCU have officially clarified the «canonical position» of UOC-KP hierarch Andriy Marutsak. After the death of Filaret Denisenko, a discussion arose about the succession of power, but the OCU emphasizes that Marutsak has no administrative authority and is recognized exclusively as a monk.

According to the Glavkom news agency, OCU spokesman Yevstratiy Zorya at a press conference analyzed in detail the «canonical status» of Marutsak. According to Zorya, Andriy Marutsak has no community, no clergyman, and no place to serve. Despite the fact that Marutsak himself calls himself «the administrator of the Kyiv Patriarchate,» according to the decisions of the OCU, he is considered only a monk Andriy.

«Andriy Marutsak has no community, no place of service, no clergy in his subordination. According to the decision of the OCU, he is recognized as monk Andrey. He considers himself the administrator of the Kyiv Patriarchate, the secretary of the synod, and in this capacity he tried to convene a meeting of the synod, but no one showed up for this meeting of the synod. Therefore, his situation in this case is, let’s say, dramatic,» said the OCU spokesman.

Earlier we reported that the former administrator of the UOC-KP, Andriy Marutsak , was temporarily banned from priesthood by the decision of the head of the organization, Nikodym Kobzar. In case of refusal to repent, Marutsak faces complete defrocking, and the religious communities subordinated to him have already come under the direct supervision of the head of the organization.
