Zelensky meets with Ukrainian rabbis to mark Pesach holiday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a solemn meeting with rabbis of Ukrainian cities and representatives of Jewish communities on the occasion of the Pesach holiday. During the event, the issues of national identity and the struggle for freedom were discussed, and the head of state was given a unique gift — the first copy of the Torah in Ukrainian.

According to the press service of the head of state, the meeting took place on April 6, 2026 in the Office of the President. Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated those present on the coming holiday, calling Pesach «the holiday of the victory of freedom». The President emphasized that these meanings are extremely important for Ukraine today, as the entire nation is fighting for its independence.

The participants of the meeting from the Jewish community expressed confidence in the imminent victory of Ukraine and noted that they are proud to live in this country. The spiritual leaders assured that the community prays daily for the restoration of peace. At the end of the meeting Zelensky was presented with the first Ukrainian-language Torah.

We will remind, earlier we reported that the cleric of the PCU Vasyl Kosyachenko urged Ukrainians to adopt Judaism to «defeat Russia». Kosyachenko is convinced that it is Judaism that can become a religion that will unite all Ukrainians. In addition, in Kosyachenko’s opinion, Judaism is much preferable to Christianity, as it is favored by the top officials of the state.
