In Nigeria, 33 suspects have been detained for involvement in church attack and terrorism

In Nigeria, law enforcement agencies apprehended 33 alleged members of a criminal network involved in terrorist acts, mass kidnappings and armed robberies. A large-scale operation by intelligence forces not only neutralized the group, but also seized heavy weapons, including an anti-aircraft gun.

According to Daily Trust, police spokesman Anthony Placid confirmed that the arrests are linked to the investigation into the brutal attack on the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, in November 2025. Recall that during that incident, which was broadcast live, gunmen killed three worshippers and abducted 38 people, including the pastor.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the Intelligence Directorate Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in Kwara and Kogi states. According to investigations, the detainees were involved in a wide range of crimes from cattle rustling and murder to arms trafficking and outright terrorist activities. Seven AK-47 rifles, 7.62mm caliber ammunition, radios and camouflage equipment were seized during raids in Kayama, Patigi and other locations.

The police emphasized that the suspects abandoned some of the weapons, including an anti-aircraft gun, while trying to escape. Currently, investigative actions are ongoing, while security forces are searching for the remaining members of the gang to completely eliminate this criminal cell.

Recall, earlier we reported that a series of brutal attacks on Christian communities during Easter Sunday celebratory services on the Western Christian calendar in Kaduna and Benue states in the north and center of Nigeria. According to preliminary reports, at least 29 people were killed by armed gunmen, dozens of parishioners were kidnapped, and church buildings were severely damaged.
