Georgian Patriarchate warns of spreading fake information on social networks

The Georgian Patriarchate has issued an official warning regarding the appearance of a fake page in social networks that pretends to be an official communication channel of the church. According to the statement, the resource illegally uses official symbols and logos of the religious organization to mislead users.

According to the Orthodox Times news portal, the new page called “Georgian Patriarchate Communication Page” has nothing to do with official structures, and the identity of its administrators remains unknown at the moment. Representatives of the Church stressed that the creators of the page unauthorizedly use the logo of the Patriarchate’s Public Relations Service.

In connection with the revealed violation, the church authorities called on believers and the general public to be particularly vigilant and rely exclusively on verified and official channels for obtaining information. The Patriarchate emphasized the importance of protecting the integrity of its communications and the need for joint efforts to prevent the spread of disinformation.

It should be recalled that the Georgian Orthodox Church is entering a crucial period of preparation for the election of a new Catholicos-Patriarch after the death of Ilia II. Against the backdrop of growing public debate and media pressure, officials of the Patriarchate call on the faithful and civil society to dignity and full confidence in the Holy Synod, emphasizing the need to follow Church canons rather than television debates.
