A Slovenian resident spoke about her journey from Islam to Orthodoxy

Milica, a parishioner of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Slovenian town of Nova Gorica, shared her story of conversion from Islam to Orthodoxy, noting that it was in the Christian faith that she found the peace of mind, peace and love of Christ she was looking for.

According to the SPJ information resource in Serbia, Milica was born and raised in a Muslim family, but for a long time she was on a spiritual quest. Her journey to the Church began in 2019 through attending Orthodox celebrations, baptisms at friends’ houses, and studying religious content on the internet, which gradually formed in her a sense of closeness to the Orthodox way of life.

The decisive event was attending the Liturgy in June 2025. «It was already then that I felt for the first time that I had finally found my place. The smell of incense, icons, prayer and peace left a deep impression on me,» Milica recalls. Despite the fact that she lost consciousness twice during the first services, the woman regarded it as a special sign of her calling to Christ.

The sacrament of baptism took place on October 9, 2025. An important role in her spiritual formation was played by her friend Amos, her godmother Dragana and her confessor, Father Miroslav. At the end of her story Milica emphasized that in the end every person needs only a pure soul and the love of the Lord.

It is worth noting that cases of conversion to Orthodoxy are also recorded in other regions: earlier it was reported that two American servicemen were baptized in the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo.
