Over 570 thousand believers worshipped the Belt of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Belgrade

More than 576 thousand people visited St. Sava’s Church in Belgrade to worship the Belt of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The great Orthodox relic will stay in the Serbian capital until June 6, 2026, after which it will be returned to the Holy Mount Athos.
According to data published on the portal zivotcrkve.rs, between 20:00 on May 20 and 20:00 on June 2, 2026, 576,793 worshippers passed through the Church of St. Sava on Vračar. High interest in the event was shown not only by the residents of Serbia, but also by pilgrims from neighboring countries and far abroad.
His Holiness Patriarch Porfirios of Serbia noted that such a significant number of worshipers testifies to the faithfulness of the people to the centuries-old precepts of St. Sava and St. Prince Lazar. According to the Primate, this is a living embodiment of the New Testament in the life of Orthodox Serbs.
The relic’s stay in Belgrade’s main cathedral will last until Saturday, June 6. On that day, after the festive Divine Liturgy, which will be presided over by Patriarch Porfiry, a solemn farewell to the relic will take place. Then the Belt of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be officially escorted back to the Vatoped Monastery on Mount Athos.
