The court replaced Metropolitan Arseny's round-the-clock house arrest with nighttime house arrest

The Chechelevsky District Court of Dnipro extended the pretrial detention order for Metropolitan Arseny, the abbot of the Svyatogorsk Lavra, until August 11, 2026, changing the terms of his house arrest from round-the-clock to nighttime-only. The bishop is now required to remain at his place of detention from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., while his movement is unrestricted during the day.

According to the press service of the Svyatogorsk Lavra, the hearing in the case of Metropolitan Arseny took place on June 11, 2026. The court considered the issue of further pretrial detention in connection with the expiration of the previous ruling.

Prosecutors requested an extension of round-the-clock house arrest for another two months. In turn, the defense asked to replace it with nighttime house arrest, citing, in particular, the bishop’s health condition following heart surgery. Metropolitan Arseny and his lawyers participated in the hearing via videoconference.

In support of the vicar of the Svyatogorsk Lavra, clergy and believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, as well as People’s Deputy Viktoria Grib, arrived at the courtroom. The defense emphasized that no violations of procedural obligations had been recorded on the part of the metropolitan.

Metropolitan Arseniy himself stated that the recommendations of cardiac surgeons indicate the need for fresh air during the rehabilitation period. “My physical activity is limited, yet it is essential for my recovery after surgery and nearly two years of imprisonment, the bishop noted. He also reiterated that he does not admit guilt.

Judge Tatyana Bezruk ruled to extend the pretrial detention measure until August 11, 2026, while replacing round-the-clock house arrest with nighttime house arrest. The decision took effect on the day it was issued. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for June 30 at 10:00 a.m.
