Patriarch Shio III of Georgia discussed issues of reconciliation and unity with the head of the Abkhazian government

On June 10, 2026, Catholicos-Patriarch Shio III of All Georgia received the Prime Minister of Abkhazia, Giorgi Jincharadze, at the Patriarchal Residence in Tbilisi. During the meeting, the parties discussed the key challenges facing the country, the historical ties between Georgians and Abkhazians, as well as the importance of peaceful dialogue for strengthening stability and the prospects for reunification.

According to the Orthodox Times, special attention was paid during the meeting to the centuries-old relations between the Georgian and Abkhaz peoples. The participants emphasized the importance of the shared cultural and spiritual heritage that has united the peoples of the region throughout history.

Catholicos-Patriarch Shio III reiterated that reconciliation, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence must form the foundation of the future. In his words, love, understanding, and respect for shared historical values are the most important conditions for building a common future.

During the conversation, the need to preserve historical ties and develop dialogue was also emphasized. These steps, as noted, are of fundamental importance for strengthening unity and maintaining stability in the region.

Following the meeting, the participants reaffirmed their conviction that Abkhazia is an integral part of Georgia and expressed confidence that the country’s reunification can be achieved through peace, unity, and reconciliation.
