PrivatBank has allocated 2 million hryvnia for the restoration of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra following the Russian attack

PrivatBank has allocated 2 million hryvnias toward the restoration of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, which sustained damage as a result of the Russian strike on Kyiv on the night of June 15. The bank has also launched a fundraising campaign to enable citizens, businesses, and organizations to contribute to the restoration of one of Ukraine’s key religious sites and cultural heritage monuments.

According to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the funds will be used for restoration work at the National Reserve, which was damaged by the Russian attack. PrivatBank emphasized that, given Russia’s targeted strikes on Ukrainian cultural heritage, it is particularly important to join forces to preserve it.

PrivatBank CEO Mikael Björkner noted the need for joint support of sites of cultural significance. In turn, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture, Tetyana Berezhna, thanked the bank for its prompt assistance and responsible stance.

“The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is one of Ukraine’s most important holy sites, as well as a monument of global significance. Restoring such sites is our shared responsibility to future generations,” stated Tetyana Berezhna, emphasizing the importance of support from private and international partners.

The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is under enhanced international protection in accordance with the Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention. As a result of the attack on June 15, the Assumption Cathedral, in particular, as well as a number of museum and cultural sites within the reserve, were damaged.

The charity fundraiser, launched by PrivatBank, is intended for individuals in Ukraine and abroad, as well as representatives of businesses and organizations. The funds will be used to restore the damaged cultural heritage sites.
