A delegation from the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations discussed the Ukrainian government’s policy toward the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Brussels

On June 22, 2026, a delegation from the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO) visited Brussels, where it presented its position on the Ukrainian government’s actions in the religious sphere to its European counterparts. Representatives of various denominations described the government’s current policy toward the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) as necessary measures to “protect freedom of religion,” according to a press release from the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.
During the visit, members of the delegation—including representatives of the OCU, Epiphanius Dumenko and Yevstratiy Zoria—stated that the government’s legislative initiatives are aimed at countering the use of religion as a tool in hybrid warfare. Religious leaders emphasized that these steps are part of the reforms being implemented in the country under wartime conditions.
The event was also attended by Ukraine’s Representative to the EU, Vsevolod Chentsov, who discussed the current negotiation process with those present. Representatives of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO), in turn, highlighted their 30 years of experience in interfaith cooperation in Ukraine.
As a reminder, we previously reported thatthe UN Human Rights Committee had taken note of materials regarding the situation surrounding the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, in particular reports of pressure on journalists, lawyers, and human rights defenders, as well as events related to the UOC’s cathedral in Cherkasy.
