A Ukrainian National Pantheon will be established in Kyiv on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has officially decided to establish the Ukrainian National Pantheon, which will be located on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve. This large-scale memorial complex will serve as a place to honor the memory of the country’s outstanding historical figures. This was reported by the publication “Ukrainian News.”
According to the government resolution, the Ministry of Culture has been tasked with determining the exact location of the future site within the Lavra and launching an architectural competition to select the best design. In addition, the authorities will need to develop a detailed concept and structure for the pantheon, involving experts and the public in the process to facilitate a broad discussion of the initiative.
The project places particular emphasis on the issue of “historical justice.” According to the publication, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, has been tasked with exploring the possibility of reburying prominent fighters for Ukraine’s independence and other iconic figures whose remains are currently located abroad. The process will begin once the necessary permissions are obtained from the relevant countries, ensuring the dignified return of these heroes to their homeland.
As a reminder, we previously reported that a ceremonial unveiling of a bust of Ukrainian Hetman Ivan Mazepa took place on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called this event “an important step toward restoring historical justice.”
