In Canada, a Catholic priest officiated at the LGBT wedding of his gay brother

A Catholic priest from Canada found himself in the public spotlight after officiating at his brother’s wedding to his same-sex partner. The priest’s actions caused a stir because they clearly contradicted the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church, according toLife Site News.
The incident took place in July 2026 in the Niagara Falls area. Rico Passero, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Grimsby, Ontario, personally confirmed his participation in the ceremony via social media. The priest called the event “epic” and “one of the most special” occasions he had ever attended, expressing gratitude to friends and family for their support of the union between his brother Anthony and Aldair Martinez Garcia.
The priest’s actions raised questions among the faithful and the media, as they run counter to the official Catechism of the Catholic Church. According to Vatican doctrine, homosexual acts are considered “intrinsically disordered” and contrary to natural law, and the Church calls for the observance of chastity.
At this time, Bishop Gerard Paul Bergi of the Diocese of St. Catharines has not provided any official comments regarding possible disciplinary measures against the clergyman. It is worth noting that this is not the first instance of controversial behavior by members of the clergy: there have been previous reports of Catholic nuns establishing support groups for transgender people.
