A New Milestone for Orthodoxy: The First Baptisms Were Held in Diego Suarez, Madagascar

A momentous event took place in the northern Madagascan city of Diego Suarez: the first sacraments of Holy Baptism in the city’s history were administered. This event marks the beginning of a large-scale missionary effort aimed at strengthening the region’s Orthodox community under the auspices of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, as reported by OrthoChristian at .

As noted by the Diocese of Mahajanga and Northern Madagascar, the baptisms laid the spiritual foundation for the further development of the Church of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel. In honor of the newly baptized and the parishioners, Bishop Nifon of Northern Madagascar organized a traditional meal, emphasizing the unity of the church community.

To ensure a regular spiritual life in Diego Suarez, a permanent priest was appointed to the Church of the Holy Apostles, which will allow for regular divine services and the administration of the sacraments. In addition, construction is continuing in the city on a complex of buildings designed to meet the growing needs of the diocese.
