A new Orthodox church dedicated to Saints Paisius, Sophronius, and Porphyrius will be built in Amman

A new Orthodox church dedicated to the Venerable Paisios of Svyatogor, the Venerable Porphyrios of Kavsokalivi, and Saint Sophronius, Patriarch of Jerusalem. Archbishop Christopher of Kyriakoupolis announced the launch of this large-scale project, which has received the blessing of Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, according to the publication Orthodox Times.

According to Metropolitan Christopher’s statement, the choice of the announcement date—coinciding with the commemoration of the Venerable Paissios—holds deep spiritual significance. The new church is intended to serve not only as an architectural landmark but also as an important spiritual center for the rapidly growing Orthodox community in western Amman. The construction of the church is driven by pastoral necessity, stemming from the city’s expansion and the relocation of many believers to this area.

The plot of land for construction was donated by the Orthodox Society for Culture and Education and has already been registered in the name of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Archbishop Christopher emphasized that this project embodies the continuity of generations and the Church’s desire to be closer to its parishioners. Archimandrite Athanasius Kakish has been entrusted with overseeing all stages of the construction process.

As part of the initiative, an official project website has been launched, where believers from Jordan and other countries can follow the progress of construction, learn about the lives of the church’s patron saints, and make donations. According to the metropolitan, participation in the construction is an important contribution to preserving the Christian presence and the Church’s mission in Jordan and the Holy Land.
