A delegation from the OCU visited the territories of the Patriarchate of Alexandria

From July 24 to 26, 2026, an official delegation of the OCU traveled to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, to strengthen ties and express mutual support for the local diocese of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. The visit took place with the assistance of the Ukrainian Embassy in Kenya. This was reported by Pomisna.info.

It is reported that the OCU delegation was led by the organization’s spokesperson, Yevstratiy Zoria. During the trip, the Ukrainian representatives met with Archbishop Makarios of Nairobi, Exarch of East Africa for the Patriarchate of Alexandria. The parties discussed the current religious situation in the world, as well as the development of the Moscow Patriarchate’s church mission on the African continent, which had previously been condemned by the OCU Synod. Yevstratiy Zoria emphasized that “ the Ukrainian people keenly feel the pain of their brothers in Africa, since Ukraine itself suffers from similar actions by the Russian side.”

During the meeting, the guests were shown church institutions in Nairobi, including a theological seminary, a medical center, and a school. The meeting concluded with Archbishop Makariy granting permission for the OCU delegation to hold liturgical services at the Cathedral of Saints Cosmas and Damian in Nairobi.

As a reminder, earlier, Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), Secretary of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate for Inter-Christian Relations, explained why the decision was made to sever relations with the Patriarchate of Alexandria and to establish the African Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church. According to the priest, this situation arose as a result of the uncanonical actions of Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria, who recognized the OCU and concelebrated with the head of that organization.
