The Sosnovsky District Court in Cherkasy extended the pretrial detention order for Metropolitan Theodosius

The Sosnovsky District Court of Cherkasy has ruled to extend the preventive measure in the form of a personal pledge for Metropolitan Feodosy (Snigirev) of Cherkasy and Kaniv. The corresponding ruling was issued on July 30, 2026, and will remain in effect until September 30, 2026, according to the publication Suspilne.media.

During the hearing, Prosecutor Vadym Kolomiets justified the motion to extend the restrictions by citing the need to minimize risks, among which he mentioned the defendant’s possible attempt to flee justice or commit new offenses. The prosecution also cited the existence of several allegations in similar cases and claims that the metropolitan allegedly exerted pressure on the victims directly in the courtroom.

The defense, represented by attorney Tamara Gridenko, strongly opposed this decision. The defense characterized the prosecution’s position as “formalism,” emphasizing the lack of documented evidence supporting the alleged risks. The attorney called the proceedings “revealing” and urged the court to ensure that the prosecution adheres to the rule of law. Metropolitan Theodosius himself supported his defense attorney, calling what was happening in court a “farce” on the part of the prosecution; however, the court decided to grant the prosecution’s motion in full.
