A church dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Lord was desecrated in Greece

Residents of the Greek town of Kalivia are shocked by an act of vandalism committed at the Chapel of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the local cemetery just one day after the chapel’s feast day. The perpetrators caused significant damage to the interior of the sanctuary, according to a report by the Orthodoxia News Agency ( ).

According to published photographs and statements from the Saronikos City Hall, icons were damaged, windows were shattered, and furniture was overturned inside the chapel. The vandals did not even spare the altar area, sparking a wave of public outrage. Municipal officials described the incident as an act of extreme depravity and disrespect toward a place that holds special spiritual and commemorative significance for the local community.

Currently, municipal authorities are actively cooperating with law enforcement agencies to identify the perpetrators. City officials emphasized that such sacrilegious acts are unacceptable to society and promised to complete restoration work on the church as soon as possible so that it can be reopened to the faithful.
