The Ukrainian Orthodox Church—Kyiv Patriarchate announced the establishment of a stauropegial skete in Greece

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church—Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC-KP) has officially announced the expansion of its international activities through the establishment of a new religious center in Europe. The organization has opened a stauropegial skete in the Greek city of Lavrio. The UOC-KP reported this on Facebook.
According to a decree signed by the head of the UOC-KP, Nikodim, on July 12, 2026, the new men’s monastery was consecrated in honor of St. Luke of Crimea. “Archbishop of Simferopol and Yevpatoria” Iakov (Yannakis) was appointed abbot of the community.
An official statement from the UOC-KP emphasizes that the establishment of the monastery in Greece is a strategic step aimed at strengthening the organization’s international mission. The monastery is expected to become a significant center of prayer for the Ukrainian diaspora and to contribute to the development of dialogue and the strengthening of ties with Greek Orthodoxy.
As a reminder, on July 11, 2026, the chairman of the UOC-KP, Nikodim Kobzar , signed a decree establishing the Spiritual Mission of the UOC-KP in the Republic of Kosovo (Dardania). This decision is aimed at expanding the Church’s activities beyond Ukraine’s borders and providing spiritual care for believers in the region.
