Bulgarian theologian Georgi Todorov condemned the silence surrounding the tragedy at the Svyatogorsk Lavra

Georgi Todorov, a well-known Bulgarian theologian and host of the program “Svetogled,” sharply criticized public and church institutions for ignoring the murder of a monk at the Svyatogorsk Lavra. The author dedicated a special episode of his program to this tragic event, titled “The Pathology of Silence.”

In his address at , Todorov emphasized that failing to publicize the crime is a grave sin and a form of betrayal of the truth. The theologian expressed bewilderment at the stance of Bulgaria’s official media and religious institutions, which chose to adopt a wait-and-see attitude rather than provide an objective assessment of what had happened.

Distinguishing between the concepts of spiritual silence and the criminal concealment of sin, the expert noted that every individual is obligated to bear witness to the truth, regardless of whether this might influence the authorities’ decisions. “Even if our words do not change the authorities’ decisions, they are of immense importance for our conscience and for those around us,” the theologian concluded, calling on everyone to reflect on their personal responsibility for what is happening in the world.

As a reminder, the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra issued an official appeal to the public, calling for assistance in the treatment and rehabilitation of the monastery’s monks, who were seriously injured during the armed attack that took place on August 23, 2026.
