Former MP Igor Mosiychuk accused Azov fighters of murdering a monk from the Svyatogorsk Lavra

Former Ukrainian People's Deputy Igor Mosiychuk made a sensational statement regarding the death of Monk Varsonofy (Turyansky) at the Svyatogorsk Lavra. The politician claims that fighters from the “Azov” unit were involved in this crime.
On his Telegram channel, Mosiychuk demanded that Denis Prokopenko, commander of the National Guard’s “Azov” Corps—known by the call sign “Radish”—publicly name those responsible and hand them over to investigators. The former MP emphasized that he is “very ashamed” of the current state of the unit, which he helped establish in 2014. However, Mosiychuk did not provide any documentary evidence to support his allegations.
As a reminder, the incident occurred on August 23, 2026, near the St. Nicholas Church, when a group of unknown assailants attacked the monastic community. As a result of the attack, Monk Varsonofy was killed, while Monk Gregory and refugee Andrei Kirienko sustained serious stab wounds. According to the forensic medical examination, the monk’s death was caused by a through-and-through gunshot wound to the head and neck. At this time, law enforcement agencies in the Donetsk region are investigating the case as a murder, but no official information about suspects has been released yet.
