"Radio of a Thousand Hills": Ukrainian Journalist Incited Hatred Against Believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church During a Live Broadcast

Bogdan Butkevych, a journalist for Kyiv FM radio, found himself at the center of yet another scandal following his harsh remarks directed at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). During a broadcast dedicated to combating the activities of the UOC, he made aggressive remarks, expressing his willingness to act as the “executioner” in a hypothetical trial against representatives of the Church. Details of the incident are reported by the Society for the Protection of Orthodoxy ( ).

During a discussion with activist Marina Koval, Butkevich described the UOC as an organization under the “direct control of the FSB.” The journalist did not mince words, using extremely offensive language toward the clergy and parishioners of the Church. In particular, he stated that the main task of the organization’s opponents is to “cut off the head of this hydra,” and he also made veiled threats against individuals defending the UOC’s rights in court.

It is worth noting that this is not the first such statement from Bohdan Butkevych. As the publication recalls, back in 2014, during a broadcast on “Hromadske.TV,” he made remarks about the need for radical measures against part of the Donbas population. Such rhetoric from the journalist regularly provokes a strong reaction in society, raising questions about the limits of professional ethics and the acceptability of hate speech in the media.
